Best practices for organizing large python source tree

The Path tree is getting kind of unwieldy. We started out following the general guidelines in the wiki page . /Mod/Path/ /App /Gui Most of the python ended up in the PathScripts sub-directory. Eventually as things grew, PostProcessors took on a life of its own. Then tools. Then unit tests. Then some...

Re: The Preference Page needs work

right, for import/export one can of course break it up into sub categories, maybe something like - import/export 2d - import/export 3d - import/export 3d-mesh in any case, just want to say that topics like this, imho, feels spot on for something intended to be called 1.0 :-) That's a good idea on t...

Re: The Preference Page needs work

I wouldn't object to two rows on the Import/Export page. There's no reason to have tons of tabs on the 'General' page. 'General' is catch-all. It doesn't give the user any sense for where to find things. It needs to be broken up into some logical chunks. Once that happens, there's no need for multip...

The Preference Page needs work

Here's something that just irks me ever time I need to use it. Why do we make it so hard for users to change unit schema? 2022-08-03_14-48.png I created an issue to discuss this . I'm not proposing any new functionality. We can make new user transition a lot easier just by rearranging the current pr...

Re: Thinking about default settings

I tried to find out where the setupsheet is located or how to create one, but I couldn't find it and the wiki entry isn't particularly helpful either. Do you have any resources? I use the Linux Appimage, if that is important. Also, is it possible to have multiple setupsheets (i.e. for different mat...

Re: Thinking about default settings

It would be nice if there was an option to load predetermined settings from somewhere, instead of entering the values I need every time. Job Templates are your friend. For your purposes, though, you need to go one step further. Edit the setupsheet. Then save the setupsheet with the template. The se...

Re: Do we have any accountants here?

Asked a friend of mine who is in finance and he said asking an accountant to work as a volunteer is like looking for a lawyer with a moral compass. That's understandable. Why would someone with special training and skills that are highly marketable want to spend their time working for free? It's lu...

Yes I do.

What confuses me is what point you're trying to make and why your tone always seems hostile.

Do we have any accountants here?

Now that the FreeCAD Project Association (FPA) is up and running, we're able to accept donations both corporate and private . We're able to use these assets to further the development of the software, protect our intellectual property, and do other cool things! However, we need to properly account f...
