Re: Fusion360 has hiked its prices once again. Brace yourselves, CADfugees are coming

Already contributed, is not the case that i am lazy or want to be a parasite ... I know you're a contributor. Sorry if that came across as critical. I was trying to push back on the idea that it's all about the code. There's the weird idea that seems to pervade FOSS projects that developers _should...

Re: Fusion360 has hiked its prices once again. Brace yourselves, CADfugees are coming

You can contribute if you want to. I really want to, but my skill are still to weak. I see this from time to time and I want to push back. Part of the reason that FOSS software lags behind the commercial alternatives isn't a lack of developers. It's that FOSS developers also end up running the proj...

Re: Glitchy Toolpath v20

Great! Glad to hear it! I'm trying to encourage a climate where everybody helps pull the load. If you got helped, then figure out how you can help. Can you improve a wiki page related to your issue? Can you answer someone else's questions? Are you a bookkeeper ? If nothing else, support the project ...

Re: Glitchy Toolpath v20

I am not sure of arc and geometry tolerance although that rings a bell for some issues I was having in the curves workbench a while back. Where are they and what should they be set at? I would rather not have to re-invent the wheel... They're in the Path Preferences dialog. It's hard to say what th...

Re: Features for money?

I don't know much about open source software communities, so please forgive me if this is weird, but I was wondering if people ever do specific development work in exchange for money. I assume it would be expensive because of the skills and knowledge involved, but I'm wondering just how expensive. ...

Re: Glitchy Toolpath v20

Since Gene and others (me) have seen the bogus path get 'cleaned up' on a recompute, I'm highly suspicious of Arc and Geometry tolerance. Are you absolutely sure that those settings are identical between you different machines? Have you tried backing up your .config/FreeCAD folder and deleting it?

Best practices for organizing large python source tree

The Path tree is getting kind of unwieldy. We started out following the general guidelines in the wiki page . /Mod/Path/ /App /Gui Most of the python ended up in the PathScripts sub-directory. Eventually as things grew, PostProcessors took on a life of its own. Then tools. Then unit tests. Then some...

Re: The Preference Page needs work

right, for import/export one can of course break it up into sub categories, maybe something like - import/export 2d - import/export 3d - import/export 3d-mesh in any case, just want to say that topics like this, imho, feels spot on for something intended to be called 1.0 :-) That's a good idea on t...

Re: The Preference Page needs work

I wouldn't object to two rows on the Import/Export page. There's no reason to have tons of tabs on the 'General' page. 'General' is catch-all. It doesn't give the user any sense for where to find things. It needs to be broken up into some logical chunks. Once that happens, there's no need for multip...

The Preference Page needs work

Here's something that just irks me ever time I need to use it. Why do we make it so hard for users to change unit schema? 2022-08-03_14-48.png I created an issue to discuss this . I'm not proposing any new functionality. We can make new user transition a lot easier just by rearranging the current pr...
