Re: Very slow recomputation - what am I doing wrong?

Thank you for this insight. I'm definitely a noob in CADing, so perhaps that's my misconceptions acting up, but my understanding was that having a single point where you parametrize your models is kind of the point of parametric design. Perhaps that's also because of my software engineering backgrou...

Re: Very slow recomputation - what am I doing wrong?

Thank you both, that's very helpful. I can definitely start splitting models into many files, sure - it shouldn't be a huge deal. Spreadsheets beeing slow is not great news however :-( honestly, if I'm supposed to keep some of my constraints in spreadsheets, and some in sketches, I prefer to just ha...

Very slow recomputation - what am I doing wrong?

Hi All. I'm working on a project which is big for my personal noob standards, but I don't think would be considered to be really big comparing to some showcases I've seen. The project was working mostly fine, but very recently it started being awfully slow, e.g. it takes a significant number of seco...

Re: Assembly4 with fasteners doesn't work when following tutorials

Got it, thank you so much - with some further trial and error I think I understand how this works, and I was successful in my tests. Just one more question - as I've said I was under the impression that encapsulating bodies in parts is a good practice, but you seem to suggests it's not the case - sh...

Re: Assembly4 with fasteners doesn't work when following tutorials

All right, thank you! The file I've attached was created literally yesterday, with the most recent versions of FreeCAD and A4. But, seeing you are able to work with the file if you add a new fastener, made me think - I've originally installed A4 few months ago, possibly around 0.11.5. From what I se...

Assembly4 with fasteners doesn't work when following tutorials

Hello, hope someone will be able to help me here. I'm trying to use fasteners in Assembly 4. I've read the following topics: - https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?t=54517 - https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?p=572262 But when I follow the steps, it just doesn't work... Here's how my t...

Re: Objects imported from STEP files are offset from the center by a lot - how to work with them?

Well that's a really simple solution I did not know about...

One tiny detail, I think it's called "MoveToOrigin" -> at least that's the one I've found, and it indeed worked - but other than that, thank you so much, that will save me so much time

Objects imported from STEP files are offset from the center by a lot - how to work with them?

Hello! I have a question not of a "How do I do X?" kind, but "I'm doing X this way, but it seems wrong, is there a better way?" kind. I want to build the infamous Prusa Lack Enclosure for my 3D printer, but after some measurements, I've decided that I need to adjust some parts of...

Re: Part Design - differences between primitives & sketches?

Thank you all! I've thought I've set my email notifications settings correctly, but somehow I wasn't notified of your answers. I really appreciate your help! So what I'm taking from all the answers is there are no huge differences/caveats, but there are some finer points to keep in mind during the d...

Part Design - differences between primitives & sketches?

Hello, my first post here - I'm a noob, just getting into the (Free)CAD world during a few past months. While the design process is usually quite fun & satisfying I also often find myself looking for answer to many questions - and I though I'll ask a (hopefully) simple one here, for which I have...
