Re: Linux distro for new install

How often do you want to update FreeCAD? If you want to do this regularly, there is no need to make an install or deb package. I also have my build directory in my /home/user/folder , never had any issues about that. But if you want to make a deb package, just type after building checkinstall and f...

Re: Linux distro for new install

I still have two days before the rest of my build gets here, so I'll take a look a manjaro and Debian bookworm tomorrow. Wish I knew more about building deb's. I've been able to compile Freecad on debian, kubuntu and Mint I just can't figure out how to install it. Any advice on reading material for ...

Re: Linux distro for new install

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I made a fresh install of Debian bullseye and tried to install stable and daily from the PPA's. As expected they both failed on apt update. I then cloned master from the github repo and made a successful out of source build. I can run Freecad from the build/bi...

Linux distro for new install

My 12 year old desktop is dying. I have a new system on order (x570s motherboard with AMD RX 6700xt GPU with 64GB of memory and plenty of drive space.) I'm looking for recommendations for the Linux distro to install. Freecad is one of my main applications so I'm looking for a distro that will make i...

Re: install of the stable release gives a 0.16 on a Ubuntu distrib

I just installed from the "Daily" PPA and it installed and runs fine. (Yes the "Stable" is very broken.) Installed on kubuntu 22.04 I was going to tell you that 22.04 has trouble with pivy and link to another thread, now I see it was you on that thread too! So this statement is ...

Re: install of the stable release gives a 0.16 on a Ubuntu distrib

I just installed from the "Daily" PPA and it installed and runs fine. (Yes the "Stable" is very broken.) Installed on kubuntu 22.04 There was a problem with adding a job in the path workbench. It was resolved, see this post: https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?p=609596#p60...

Re: Errors when creating Path Job

Wow! python3-pivy_0.6.7 has fixed the issue. I have also had problems with the lead in/out dressup causing the simulation to lockup. This fixed that issue also. I found the 6.7 version here: https://debian.pkgs.org/sid/debian-main-amd64/python3-pivy_0.6.7-0.1_amd64.deb.html and installed it with sud...

Re: Errors when creating Path Job

I can get by with installing the Flatpak version of the .20 release but I really want to stay away from Flatpaks, Snap and ... It does seem like the PPA's are broken for any newer distro. Hope they fix this soon. I would like to upgrade my distro to 22.04. I'm a bit confused about pivy. Is this pyth...
