Re: 2D surface defined by a polygon sketch
Please, I might be misunderstanding your requirements. Let us start simple. In Part, go to Create Primitives and make a hexagon. Then go to Part, Shape Builder and choose Face from edges. Multi select the six edges of the hexagon and hit go. You now have a 2D hexagonal surface (called a face in FC)....

Re: Is Shapestring the only option for text?
...will be printed as the pattern for cast iron copies. I have just re-read your original post and seen the above. I think if you are to use it as a pattern, it will need some draft (taper) on it so it releases from the sand. It would be wise to experiment with a single letter from your chosen font...

Re: Surface finishing?
I'm primarily looking to apply a mirror effect to just the inside of a cylinder and not in its entirety. You might be able to cheat. Draw a tube with a really thin wall and colour/render that for display/visualisation purposes. Switch it off for engineering purposes. In the attached, the inner tube...

Re: Clone Tool in Sketcher
Please see this post: https://forum.freecad.org/viewtopic.php?p=497679#p497679 It says that you have to apply the constraints directly to geometry elements for clone to work. It might be relevant to your issue. Sorry if it is not what you are seeking. Also see note at top of this page: https://wiki....

Re: Constraint sketch based on Part 3D information
...I'm trying to cut three notches into the _edge_ of the pad thickness, so perpendicular to the original sketch plane. You can bring in external geometry from a sketch not on the plane of the one on which you are working. To do so, often you have to rotate the view in Sketcher so it is not planar ...

Specific to the subject of this thread, the Data, Justification property
https://wiki.freecad.org/Draft_ShapeString#Data
Remember in the 'old days' that centring a random text string in a rectangle was somewhat challenging. Hopefully not any more.

Re: Modifying master sketch breaks slave sketch
If you think about it, the master sketch is not really supposed to be modified. It is a baseline from which other geometry takes its reference. You are encouraged to make your mind up and fix your ideas/design when producing it. Make the master sketch. Stop. Think. Change it if needed. Then make dep...

Re: Is Shapestring the only option for text?
How faithful to the original plate does your model need to be? Can you find a font that is close enough? What is the total unique character count of the text you want (e.g. aardvark would be 5)? Depending on your answers to the above, you can create each character as a sketch and work that way. Impo...

Re: Sketcher or Draft
I do not think I am saying anything extra to the previous posts, just maybe saying it in a different way. Would the correct route also be closely related to what you want the resulting object to be and what you want to do with it after cutting the corner off? If you Sketch and Pocket the original Pa...

Re: Threads for 3d print
The difficulty is that the depth of thread is proportional to the pitch of the thread. You have chosen 5mm pitch so the lid screws on quickly, but that makes the wall thickness at the root of the thread very small, hence it breaks. Do some research on twin (multi-) start threads. You will be able to...
