Infrequent crash when selecting features or faces

I'm running into a strange and quite annoying crash when using FreeCAD on my work computer. At random times it crashes to desktop without any message when selecting something - a feature in the tree, a part face, a part, and this occurs in every workbench where this is possible. Sometimes it also cr...

Re: System Requirements ? OS Compatibility ?

The 1 gig of ram and poor graphics will make it quite a poor experience, you'd be better off with a newer pi or other minicomputer

Re: Who can help if not Zolko

I don't remember a single zolko post that was not toxic or unpleasant in some way. And very much a "my way or no way" attitude, just criticizing and criticizing anything that wasnt his vision of doing things. I'm not surprised he eventually ran out of second chances here As for who can hel...

Re: Joining round tube to square tube

If you want a single joined part: pad the rectangular section first, then pad the round tube as a solid cylinder, finally pocket the ID of the round tube. Trick is to make the rectangle "longer than it needs to be" so that the cylinder overlaps it, that will result in no gap If you want an...

Re: Part design - Hole thread profiles. - Custom or pipe threads.

The other difficulty is that tables of NPT threads have the major diameter defined as the pipe outside diameter. Hence, for a standard NPT thread, the major diameter you enter into the macro reduces at a 1:16 taper as you move up the thread. With BSP thread tables, the major diameter given in the t...

Re: Making Sense of Threaded Holes

You're making modeled threads so I assume this is something you plan to 3D print? fyi 3 mm of fine plastic threads will hold practically nothing, and without super fine print settings the hole might not have any usable threads at all... You would be better off using nuts+bolts+washers, or integratin...

Re: FPA letter about the future, some thoughts

Often you do not have permission on an assembly and part on the same time due PDM (check in/out, product owner, etc.). Often the assembly is maintained from the product owner or someone else. So if the one who have to mange the assembly is missing the LCS/Datum (or whatever it called from the CAD i...

Re: Need help with creating my first CAD project

Using Part Design: Sketch the base plate (109x19 shape) onto the XY plane. You can keep it simple and just draw the entire thing, its a simple part so you don't have to draw half and try to imagine the rest. Don't draw the inside elements yet. From the sketch picture it looks like the reason it is s...

Re: part/part design and confusing operations question(s).

It can't be another way and that is all to it. But it feels awkwards. It is like telling the carpenter "If you use your saw then you can also use sandpaper but you no longer can use your planer and chissels. But if you use your planer and chissels you can not use your saw and sandpaper." ...
